What is The Alley?

The Alley Community & Youth Center is a place where teens can find support and guidance in a caring atmosphere,  thus helping to ease the burden on already over-extended parents.

Middle and high school students come to The Alley after school to receive academic tutoring or homework help, meet with a mentor,
use the computer lab, or just hang out and play pool or video games in a relaxed and safe environment.

Our Mission:

To support parent's efforts in helping middle and high school students reach their potential academically, emotionally and spiritually.

We are open, free of charge, to students in the Kent & nearby Queen Anne’s county area three afternoons a week.

Our priority is developing relationships with each individual that comes through our doors.  Each person is important to us, and every day students are being encouraged to reach their potential.  We seek to know their needs, challenges, and goals, and strive to provide the individualized care and support necessary to help them meet those needs, overcome those challenges, and achieve those goals.

Our Strategy:

We partner with local schools, churches, community members, and organizations to provide support, programs, and relationships for our students.
 Who does The Alley serve?
Students who come to The Alley bring with them a variety of needs that reflect the changing character of our community.  Some have single parents who work long hours and just can’t be around to see that their teenager stays out of trouble or that their homework gets done. Some simply need a place to feel welcomed and encouraged by people who care about them.
Teens, ages 13 - 17 come to The Alley to participate in our existing programs - always free.
         PROGRAMS
The Alley provides the individualized academic and relational encouragement students need to set goals, succeed in school, and reach their potential.
       Partnerships
The Alley partners with area churches and organizations to help meet the needs of our youth, and provide them with the support they need to succeed.
FUTURE VISION
The following programs are currently under development - your help will make their launch possible.
After-School Tutoring Program
The Alley’s After-School Tutoring Program offers middle and high school students one-on-one support, general homework help, and computer lab use three days a week.  Volunteer tutors are matched with students to provide individualized or group homework help in a variety of subject areas.
  Kent County High School
The Alley provides weekly on-site tutoring at Kent County High School for in-season athletes.
               GirlTalk
A program for high school girls as a venue to discuss critical and sensitive issues.  Girl Talk sessions will address topics such as relationships, body image, teen pregnancy, communication, and careers, via a panel of speakers and small discussion groups in which to reflect and ask questions.
Mentoring Program
We invest heavily in the lives of individual students through our Adult/Student Mentoring Program.  Research shows that, through relationships with caring adults, youth build the strength, resilience and skills they need to thrive as adults. Mentoring lets young people know that they have someone who cares about them.  Volunteer mentors are available to meet weekly with students, providing encouragement, support, resources, and building relationships.
 Young Life
An interdenominational middle & high school student ministry that meets weekly at The Alley; students can attend for worship, teaching, and fellowship.
They meet every Thursday night at 7:30pm

              The Huddle
For guys only, this program will meet periodically during the school year and address topics of critical importance to high school guys, including staying out of trouble, understanding girls, and figuring out post-high school plans.
Teen Lounge
The Alley hosts special weekend events to raise funds for on-going programs and expansion needs.

The Alley is also a resource for community groups and high school extracurricular groups.
